Grape: Chardonnay. Wow, a bit controversial because it borders on over-the-top. Huge nose of cream, brioche, toasted almond and vanilla, very full-bodied. I believe this is Grand Cru fruit (meaning it comes from the best Champagne vineyards). It's like the Champagne version of a super Californian chard (I mean that in a good way), but without the overt oakiness. I could have used a bit more acid to clean this behemoth up on the finish a bit more. $40 at Wine Club (2005-08-05)
